Harlem Woman Suspected Of Driving Under The Influence With 9-Year-Old Grandson In Car

A Harlem woman was arrested Friday after a Havre Dollar Tree employee reported that someone broke the toilet and drove away, probably drunk.

Roberta Lynn Johnson, 53, faces pending charges of felony criminal child endangerment and two additional misdemeanor charges, driving under the influence-first offense and driving without insurance.

Johnson is listed in the Hill County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

Here’s what happened, according to court documents:

At 10 a.m. Friday, a Dollar Tree employee called Havre Police to report that a woman was driving drunk.

The woman said someone (later identified as Johnson) broke a toilet in the Dollar Tree when she fell into it. She could barely walk and had blood on her arm, the worker reported.

Johnson got in a black Chevrolet Cruze and drove east, away from the Holiday Village Mall, police were told.

Police found Johnson in the vehicle, which was parked in a handicap spot at McDonald’s with the keys in the ignition.

Poice talked to Johnson and she admitted she drove to McDonald’s.

The officer noticed that Johnson’s speech was slurred and that she spit popcorn out when she spoke. Her eyes were red and glassy and she smelled of alcohol.

Johnson had her 9-year-old grandson in the car at the time.

Johnson told police she had been drinking alcohol and had taken Gabapentin pills. Gabapentin is anti-seizure medication, but police say people also take it to get high.

Johnson failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and the breath test. She was arrested.
