Eldridge Defeats Meis For Havre City Council Seat

Derek Eldridge defeated Erik Meis 149-78 in Tuesday’s race for Ward 4 council member.

The all-mail ballot election was the lone race in Havre. All other municipal offices were unopposed.

Eldridge works at the family-owned Fiveheads, a clothing design store on West First Street in Havre.

He grew up in Great Falls and lived in Helena before coming to Havre eight years ago. He said he ran for office to help come up with solutions to the problems he sees in his adopted town.

Meis was appointed by the City Council to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of 11-year council member Andrew Brekke. He owns a First Street car wash and holds a postal contract with the U.S. Post Office. He promised to bring a businessman’s approach to city government.

Eldridge will take office in January.

A total of 743 ballots were mailed out; 55 were not deliverable.
