A Box Elder woman received 18 months in prison for stabbing a man on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation last year.
Katie Lynn Big Bow, 44, pleaded guilty in January to assault of a dating partner resulting in substantial bodily injury. She was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Chief Judge Brian M. Morris in Great Falls.
She will be on probation for two years following her prison sentence.
The prosecution said in court records that the assault happened May 2, 2019, when Big Bow stabbed the victim in the left hand and upper chest with a butterfly knife at his house in Box Elder. Big Bow and the victim were in a long-term relationship, according to the prosecution.
The victim drove himself to the clinic on the reservation, according to court records.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paulette Stewart prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI and Rocky Boy’s Chippewa Cree Law Enforcement Department.
